Day 2

After waking up really late just before midday it was action stations for me. Even though we were in a hurry to get out and about, we still managed to have a very civilised breakfast which set us up nicely for the day.

First stop was the Guinness storehouse which I'd been wanting to see since forever. We walked there since everything in Dublin seems to be within reasonable walking distance. After turning into an unassuming side street, I was soon aware that we were nearing the factory which was soon after confirmed by a massive wooden gate emblazoned with the Guinness logo.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the place, my favourite being the advertising floor where you could view classic TV adverts, great old school posters and tons of very eclectic types of merchandising. Sipping a pint on top of the building with a 360 degree view of Dublin on a sunny day topped it all off nicely.

Having worked up an appetite, we made our way back to the city centre and stopped over into a pub to eat. The place was a real fire hazard since its walls were completely covered in flags and posters of what I can only presume to be the owners favourite Gaelic football teams. Speaking of which, a game was being shown on a TV near our table and for a person who I would say is familiar with a wide range of sports played in the world, I was completely lost watching Gaelic football whilst trying to figure out its rules. It looks like a cross between rugby and football, and looks rougher than both.

After a pit-stop at home, we went out again to drink you know what. Before getting to the pub however, my cousin took me to see a little memorial about the famine that was endured in Ireland in its past. The 6 or so stone statues moved me with their exaggeratedly long, thin bodies and forlorn faces, looking very haggard against a harsh and bitterly cold windy night in Dublin..
